2020 MLK List of Events 

  • Dr. Bobby Donaldson, Associate Professor of History and the Director of the Center for Civil Rights History and Research at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, will be the keynote speaker at the City of Columbia’s 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 20, 2020, the City of Columbia and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation announced. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and Community Center, 2300 Greene Street. A Wreath Laying Ceremony commemorating the historic marker honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held at 3 p.m. at the corner of Harden and Greene streets on Monday, January 20. Members of the Alpha Psi Lambda and Omicron Iota Lambda chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will lead the ceremony.

  • 2020 King Day at the Dome, Monday, January 19th at the SC State House grounds 10am-12pm. Appearances from 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidates, choirs and more.

  • The Urban League will host it’s annual MLK Breakfast at Brookland Baptist Church Banquet & Conference Center beginning at 8am Monday, January 19th.

  • The Annual MLK church service at Zion Baptist Church (downtown Columbia) will be held at 8am, Monday, January 19th.

  • Sunday, January 19th at 6pm: Freedom Rings: Celebrating the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through the Arts, Booker T Washington Center;
